It also has a momentary push button switch inside that you can activate by pushing the knob down kind of like the R3 button on a console controller joystick. It measures change in rotation instead of relative position. During the Unpack of the Kernel module, diversions were added for /boot/kernel. It is a rotary encoder and unlike a resistor potentiometer you can continually rotate it in one direction with no limit. The updates included a replacement for raspberrypi-kernel (1.20200902-1) which replaced (1.202.819-1).
